The 34-year-old prizefighter didn’t testify during the Las Vegas Justice Court trial. His attorney called the encounter between Mayweather and the guards a “trivial matter,” and said the case hinged on the boxer’s celebrity.
Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Diana Sullivan said she wasn’t convinced that the guards feared any threat would be carried out. Even the guards testified under questioning by Wright they would have preferred not to take the case to trial.
“If this wasn’t Floyd Mayweather, we wouldn’t have been in court,” attorney Richard Wright said outside the downtown Clark County Regional Justice Center. “Any other case would have resolved with an offer of an apology and a handshake.”

The not guilty finding was a victory for the undefeated prizefighter, whose legal problems have mounted in the past year. The most serious charges — stemming from a domestic dispute with his ex-girlfriend and two of their children in October 2010 — could put him in prison for 34 years if he’s convicted.
The case heard Wednesday related to an Oct. 4, 2010 encounter between Mayweather and two security guards at the Southern Highlands community where he lives.
Parking for Mayweather’s 29 cars has been a frequent source of friction in the gated and patrolled community.
Mayweather found tickets on his cars, berated the guards for touching the vehicles, removed a ticket from one vehicle and stuck it on the windshield of their security patrol vehicle, the guards, 23-year-old Miguel Burgos and 24-year-old Aaron Ryan, told police.
Burgos said Mayweather told them, “My homies have guns. If you want me to call them, they’d come over here and take care of you.”
The two guards feared for their safety, prosecutor Lisa Luzaich said.
The guards were armed with handguns, Wright countered. They never left their patrol pickup truck during Mayweather’s display and could have driven away.
The judge agreed.

Two former Utah cops jailed in Nevada
23 October 2011 in UncategorizedA former St. George police officer was behind bars Thursday in Las Vegas after authorities alleged he embarked on a two-state crime spree that included robberies, burglaries and kidnapping.
In addition, Nevada police arrested Maxwell Houghton’s former co-worker Paulette Stoker, 40, with participating in related crimes in Nevada. Both served as officers with the St. George Police Department until 2007. Police didn’t release the motive for the crimes. Officials thought the pair might have developed some sort of romantic relationship.
St. George police said in a news release Thursday that Houghton, who turns 30 on Friday, has been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, all first-degree felonies, a count of robbery and four counts of possession of a controlled substance, all second-degree felonies.
Police allege Houghton robbed four St. George businesses in July and August before moving onto Nevada. He is charged with a July 22 robbery at a St. George Kmart, a July 28 robbery at IHC-Instacare, an Aug. 15 robbery at the Professional Park Pharmacy and an Aug. 19 robbery at Smith’s Pharmacy. Police said Houghton allegedly used a gun to commit the last three robberies and demanded medications.
Police said Stoker remained a person of interest in those robberies, but said there’s currently not enough evidence to charge her.
Once in Nevada, authorities allege the duo committed burglaries and robberies before they were arrested there for a plethora of alleged crimes between them.
Houghton faces six counts of burglary, five counts of robbery, one count of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, two counts of kidnapping in the first degree with a deadly weapon, and charges for being a fugitive from justice and conspiracy to commit robbery, according to Clark County Detention Center jail records out of Las Vegas.
Stoker was charged with the felony crimes of burglary with use of a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery, jail records show.
The two remained behind bars Thursday night at the detention center.
Las Vegas police didn’t return messages seeking comment on the Nevada crimes the two are alleged to have committed. St. George police said the two allegedly robbed the Lin’s Pharmacy in Overton, Nev.
The Moapa Valley Progress newspaper reports Houghton allegedly went into the store Oct. 10, showed a gun and demanded the store’s supply of oxycodone, valued at $35,000 to $40,000 and then fled with the drugs. Police apprehended the two a short time later nearby, the paper said.
The arrests aren’t the first time Houghton and Stoker have captured the attention of law enforcement. In 2007, the two were issued one-year suspensions from the St. George Police Department by the Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training Board related to criminal charges filed against them for disorderly conduct.
Records showed Houghton worked for the St. George Police Department from May 2006 until April 2007, but even after he left the department, he twice faced misdemeanor charges of impersonating a police officer.
A charge in 2009 was dismissed, but he was convicted in 2010, Utah court records show.
The two have also been charged with some misdemeanor crimes in the past, court records show.
St. George police ask anyone who might have information about the robberies to contact them at 435-627-4319.

LOS ANGELES — Giovanni Ramirez, the man accused of beating paramedic Bryan Stow at Dodgers Stadium in March, may also be connected to an attempted murder in Nevada.

New trial date for trucker in Vegas cocaine bust
13 October 2011 in UncategorizedThe Associated Press
Thursday, Oct. 13, 2011 | 4:17 a.m.
Trial has been postponed to Jan. 23 for a 51-year-old Canadian trucker facing decades in Nevada prison after authorities reported finding more than $16 million worth of cocaine hidden in the cab of his big rig.
The Las Vegas Sun reports (http://bit.ly/quRXgl) that Gaston Danjou’s trial on felony trafficking and transporting a controlled substance charges was pushed back Tuesday in Clark County District Court.
Danjou has pleaded not guilty. He’s held at the Clark County jail on $1 million bail.
Danjou is from Quebec. He was arrested Aug. 10 after Nevada Highway Patrol troopers reported finding 452 pounds of cocaine in 10 duffel bags in a hidden compartment in the truck’s sleeper area on Interstate 15 near Jean.
That’s 30 miles south of Las Vegas near the Nevada-California state line.
Henderson doctor faces fraud charges over stem cell operations
13 October 2011 in UncategorizedA Henderson pediatrician has been charged with fraud in connection with what federal prosecutors allege was an experimental stem cell implant operation to swindle investors and chronically ill patients.
In a superseding indictment, Dr. Ralph Conti, 50, was charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud, eight counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of wire fraud and criminal forfeiture, according to Daniel G. Bogden, U.S. Attorney for the District of Nevada.
Conti is scheduled for arraignment on Oct. 13 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Carl W. Hoffman.
Alfred Sapse, 85, of Las Vegas, who was previously indicted, has also been charged in the superseding indictment, according to court documents.
If convicted, the men could each serve up to five years in prison on the conspiracy charge and up to 20 years on each fraud charge. They could also face fines of up to $250,000 for each charge and forfeiture of up to $913,748, officials said.
Sapse is suspected of having convinced patients and investors to pay him large sums of money for experimental implant procedures since January 2005, a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office said. He allegedly received about $1 million from patients and investors and used $700,000 of that money on personal expenditures and for gambling, the release said.
Sapse has never held a medical license from Nevada or any state and allegedly told patients he was a retired foreign physician, officials said.
In the fall of 2005, Sapse allegedly hired Conti to perform the procedures, without any previous stem cell training, officials said. The procedures involved placental tissue being implanted into the abdomen of the patients, officials said.
The procedures were not approved by the Food and Drug Administration and would not benefit the patients, according to the news release.
Sapse allegedly created a bogus Nevada-based pharmaceutical company and targeted patients in extreme stages of illness, officials said. According to the release, Sapse told patients the procedure would cure people with diseases such as multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy.
From about February 2006 to November 2006, Conti allegedly performed the procedure on about 34 patients in Las Vegas, officials said.
In November 2006, several patients suffered from infections from the procedures and the FDA sent the two men warning letters outlining the procedures were against federal law, officials said. After the letters were issued, Conti allegedly performed one procedure and Sapse is suspected of coordinating implants for two more patients, the news release said.
Sapse relocated to Mexico in Febuary 2007 and entered into an arrangement with a Mexican physician with an office in Nuevo Progresso, Mexico, officials said. Sapse allegedly directed the Mexican physician to performed the stem cell procedure on about 100 patients in Mexico between February 2007 and May 2010, officials said.
